Athens

Greece, Europe

Athens is one of the oldest cities in the world whose origins date back to 3000 BC. It is the famous birthplace of democracy, philosophy, politics, theatre, mathematical principles and Olympic games. No wonder it is called the Cradle of Civilization. The city is named after Athena, the goddess of wisdom who, according to the legend, gave the Athens an olive tree. Fun fact: Greece is todays third leading producer of olives in the world. The city is a popular vacation spot and it attracts about 17 million people each year.
